You can see the data related to this “Energy Flow” in the Surface tab in the object’s properties panel. Universe Sandbox simulates the temperature of an object based on the flow of energy into and out of the object. On the other hand, if the object is radiating more energy than it’s receiving, that lost energy causes the object’s temperature to drop. If the object is absorbing more energy than it is radiating away, that extra energy is used to raise the temperature of the object. An object like a planet or moon is continuously absorbing energy from its surroundings (like the heat from nearby stars) and radiating energy out into space. In addition to the Surface Grids simulation in Update 24, we also added new properties and tools related to heat and temperature in Update 25, so we wanted to take this opportunity to explain what makes planets get so hot (or cold!), and how you can use Universe Sandbox to explore the flow of energy through your objects. Thanks to our new Surface Grids feature, introduced in Update 24, Universe Sandbox can now simulate the heating of each point on an object’s surface, to create a 2D map of a planet or moon’s surface temperature. One of the many important astrophysical processes that Universe Sandbox simulates is the changing temperature of an object as it is warmed by nearby stars and other sources of heat. Your hardware is a bit older and is likely struggling with some of the higher-end rendering, which for example may be slowing down the supernova effects. We recommend at least 1GB Video Memory, a 2.6 GHZ quad-core processor, and 4GB RAM. It does not guarantee that you will have a solid 60fps during every situation and simulation. Something to keep in mind is that the minimum system requirements are what is needed to simply run Universe Sandbox Â².

Your graphics card supports Shader Model 4.0, so you shouldn't have any issues there.

I don't have Shader Model 3.0Īny info on why framerate drops during and after supernovae, and how to fix it, would be greatly appreciated So I got all the system requirements, but I am not sure about the graphics. Graphics: OpenGL, 512 MB Video Memory, Shader Model 3.0 My average fps of the performance test is 36 fps, which isn't much but good enough for me, because I don't usually run those heavy simulations. The more I move towards the supernova the more it drops, until I am in the plasma cloud where the framerate is 10 fps.Įven after the plasma cloud of the supernova is gone, and I try to go to the remnant of the star, the framerate still stays at 10 fps. The framerate drops down to 10 fps when running a supernova. This doesn't really bother me, because I don't need to zoom in that close to a star. The times it drops down so much are when I zoom in really close to a star, it drops to around 20 fps. My framerate is usually at 60 fps, which is the max, but sometimes it drops down tremendously.

First of all I really like this simulator and I am very satisfied with all the things that are possible.
